Claire® substitutes Berner FlowSafe® [MaxPro]

In the safety cabinet program of the Berner International GmbH the models of the Claire® pro & pure series will substitute the Berner FlowSafe® [MaxPro] models in 2018 completely. From January 1st, 2018 on, all Berner FlowSafe® [MaxPro] models including the B/C-[MaxPro]³-70 will not be sold any longer! The full production stop is scheduled for May 18th, 2018. By then all corresponding orders will be processed. For all safety cabinets in operation at customer site the supply with spare parts and filter will be ensured for at least 15 years, corresponding to the median operational lifetime of our safety cabinets.

The main reason for the model change is because some crucial technical components of the FlowSafe® [MaxPro] series are not any longer state of the art and do not fulfil requirements of current EU directives [1] and national laws [2] and regulations [3] for energy efficient devices. The commission regulation (EU) 327/2011 defines the requirements to the ecodesign of modern fans. AC-fans, like those used FlowSafe® [MaxPro] series, are not performing accordingly. In addition, the illumination technology in the form of fluorescent lamps does not conform to the state of the art. The sustainable and advanced safety cabinets of the Claire® pro & Claire® pure series apply only highly energy efficient EC-fans and LED light, which reduces the energy consumption by up to 84% in comparison to the precursor models of the FlowSafe® [MaxPro] series.

Other reasons for the change to the new model lines are the amendments to the german standard for safety cabinets for cytotoxics (DIN 12980) and the limited validity of the TÜV certificates for the GS mark.

  • For all customers, who require a tested or certified safety cabinets for cytotoxics, according to the new DIN 12980:2017-05 (with GS mark by TÜV-Nord), as a substitute for the C-[MaxPro]³-series diverse models of the Claire® pro or pure C-series with 3 filter levels are available. They fulfil especially the highest requirements towards the control of the personnel and the product protection by microbiological testing at so-called provocation points together with new ergonomical requirements towards leg and knee room depth.
  • Currently there is no direct substitute for the model Berner FlowSafe® B/C-[MaxPro]³-70 as a very compact safety cabinet with a width of only 70 cm. An analogous model based on the Claire® series is in the process of planning and will be available from the perspective of now in the course of the year 2018 (Q3/Q4).
  • For microbiological applications up to biosafety level 4 or for pharmaceutical applications, which require sterile working conditions (e.g. compounding of parenterals without CMR properties), several models of the Claire®-pro & pure B series are available. They are microbiological safety cabinets class II with 2 or 3 filter levels and certification, according to EN 12469.
